Cayman Island Snorkeling and Turtles
I have been to Cayman three times: once when I was young enough to sing out loud and not care if anyone heard me, once when I was fresh out of college, and once when I was a newlywed. Every time, the island was a place of discovery and wonder.
When I was a child, it was the first time I tried flippers and a snorkel. I was fascinated by the hair moving on the bodies of the people at the pool bar. They would hear my heavy breathing behind them through my snorkel, right before my parents would yank me by my feet back to a more normal social distance. That was also the trip that got me started on my journey towards everything pirate (ahoy, matey).

On our last trip, we were celebrating my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary. My husband and I showed up at my parents' room every day in snorkel and fins ready to explore the reefs outside the hotel, and my aunt mapped out all the best locations around the island to search for sea turtles. We found them and floated alongside on the current, diving deep to explore their world. We now have a huge photo collage of the trip hanging in our house and sea turtles feature prominently (along with some very embarrassing yet loving bathing suit photos).

This colorway is inspired by the turtles and waters of Cayman. From the deep blue ocean to the crashing waves, from the pirate gold to the turtles' mottled shells, I hope you, too, fall in love with the calm and joy of these yarns.
